On May 31, the Food Medicine Congress 2024 took place in Houten. For a day, attendees were updated on the latest developments in the field of the microbiome. In addition, there was plenty of opportunity to meet on the exhibition floor. Easly COO Sebastiaan Besson: “The visitors were clearly well versed in the subject matter.”
Each person carries a world of billions of microbes with them. The microbiome is more important than many people think. For example, the gut biome is home to countless bacteria that contribute significantly to essential body processes. This year’s sold-out VBGC 2024 focused on the theme “The microbiome, a clinical view.” Experts shared their insights and the latest research on the microbiome during keynotes and workshops. How can we tinker with the microbiome to achieve health benefits? In addition, they looked at the sense and nonsense in the field of nutritional supplements.

Sebastaan Besson, COO of Easly, came back from the congress with a good feeling. “There was a lot of traffic at the booth. People were interested and asked interesting questions. Visitors had clearly read up on the subject matter.”
Latest analysis technology
“There were especially many questions about the method of sequencing we use when analyzing samples,” says Besson. Most providers use short read sequencing methods in their self-testing. Our laboratory works with the latest third generation long read sequencing technology. This involves analyzing more genetic material. This provides better classification of bacteria. That is quite unique.”
